MPR fails to reach consensus
JAKARTA: The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR)'s ad hoc committee preparing the amendments to the Constitution failed to agree on a transitory provision in the Constitution on Tuesday.
The ad hoc committee deputy chairman Slamet Effendy Yusuf said after its session that each faction kept defending its arguments and, therefore, all factions were encouraged to lobby among themselves before the issue is discussed again at the end of this week.
Factions in the committee were engaged in debate over whether the MPR decrees would still be relevant after the fourth batch of amendments are endorsed in the upcoming Annual Session in August.
According to Slamet, a number of MPR decrees would no longer be relevant after the amended constitution is endorsed. --Antara
