MOU for forest research
JAKARTA (JP): The Bogor-based Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) yesterday signed memos of understanding with four Indonesian research institutes to conduct a number of joint research activities.
Under the agreements, CIFOR would conduct joint research projects with the Ministry of Forestry's Directorate General of Forestry Inventory and Land Use Planning, the ministry's Forest Research and Development Agency, Bogor Agriculture University and the Faculty of Forestry of Yogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada University.
A statement from CIFOR said the agreement would provide a framework to support sustainable forest management of tropical forests in Indonesia.
The research would cover subjects such as the impact of logging on forest biodiversity in Central Kalimantan, the effects of deforestation on biodiversity in Jambi, the development and testing of forest survey measurement and inventory techniques.
Other subjects include studies on reduced impact logging and on the effect of different management techniques on forest productivity and productivity. (pwn)
