Motorola maintains winning edge design in new handsets

The Jakarta Post, Singapore

Being fashionably mysterious and svelte was foremost in Motorola's mind when it unveiled two of its latest handsets -- the Motorola PEBL V6 and SLVR V8 -- at the CommunicAsia exhibition in Singapore last week.

Following the success of its revolutionary and iconic RAZR V3 -- with its sleek flip design and metallic finish keypad -- Motorola expects that the premium design of its newest handsets will also keep the customers lining up.

With its round and smooth lines, the mainly black Motorola PEBL V6 is all about being elegant, the company says.

"The PEBL V6's design brings a sense of intrigue to anyone seeing it, compelling them to pick it up upon first sight," said Motorola mobile devices product marketing director, Stephen Doran.

"As soon as they do, the handset's fine metal finish entices them again to twirl the handset round and round in their palms just for the pleasure of touching it."

The handset's unique clamshell design, with its responsive opening mechanism, Doran further said, will also prove a pleasurable convenience for its users as it allows them to operate and open the phone one-handedly.

The handset is a small package filled with high-tech functionality.

The 110-gram, tri-band PEBL V6, for one thing, comes integrated with a VGA camera with MPEG4 video capture and playback. Its Bluetooth wireless connectivity capability, meanwhile, allows users to easily transfer data and use separately available headset accessories.

Speaker independent voice dial, Doran added, enables users to make a phone call just by saying the name of the person they want to call, or access the phone's functions by speaking in single-word instructions.

As for the Motorola SLVR V8, Motorola said it has been specifically created for the successful and image-conscious consumer, who wants all the latest, cutting-edge communications technology available in a sleek and compact design.

"The SLVR V8 follows the slim and thin design of the RAZR V3, but addresses the preferences of customers who want the handset without the flip design," Doran said.

The Motorola PEBL V6 will be available on the Asian market -- including Indonesia -- by the second half of this year, while the SLVR V8 will be available by the end of this year.

Apart from the PEBL V6 and SLVR V8, Motorola also introduced its newest 3G handset for the region -- the Motorola V1150, which includes a 2-megapixel camera with video capture and all 3G functionalities. The V1150 will become available in the second half of this year.
