Motorist killed in traffic accident

JAKARTA (JP): A motorist was killed when his jeep was hit by two buses yesterday on the Cawang-Tanjung Priok section of the Jakarta toll road, near the Rawamangun exit in East Jakarta.

The victim, identified as Jura Chiko, died soon after his jeep caught fire in the collision with AJA and IPJ buses, a police officer at the Matraman police subprecinct confirmed over the weekend.

"The jeep, towing a generator, was hit on the left side by the speeding AJA bus before being hit in the rear by the IPJ. The jeep then caught fire," the officer said.

Jura, 30, was believed to be unconscious when the jeep burst into flames, the officer said. "The victim's body was almost unidentifiable," he added.

Jura worked for popular local comedian Indrodjoyo Kusumonegoro, whose stage name is Indro Warkop.

Indro said Jura was heading for his house with the generator, which had just been used by film producer PT Soraya Film in Bogor on the set of an episode of local Si Manis Jembatan Ancol TV series.

Indro said Jura, who had worked for him for eight years, is survived by a wife and an 18-month-old son. (jun)
