Motorcycle thief killed in shootout

TANGERANG: Tangerang police detectives shot dead on Thursday morning a suspect in a series of motorcycle thefts a shootout on. Jl Raya Serang, Cikupa.

The suspect was identified as Kosim bin Pisan, a 32-year-old resident of Rawa Boni village in Pakuhaji district of Tangerang, west of Jakarta.

Police detective deputy Insp. Kustanto said the suspect had long been the target of an investigation into a series of motorcycle thefts.

Kustanto said the police received information that Kosim, along with his cohorts Ayup and Ramsin, who are now in detention at Tangerang penitentiary, were in possession of six stolen motorcycles in Cikupa.

When the police arrived, the suspect had tried to escape while exchanging shots with police officers. The police shot him in the back and he died instantly on the spot. His body was sent to Tangerang General Hospital's morgue. -- JP
