Motorcycle taxis' data required

JAKARTA (JP): Subdistrict heads throughout Jakarta have been
instructed to collect data on motorcycle taxis, Ojek, in
operation in their respective areas.

Vice Governor of Economic and Development Affairs Tb Rais
said that ojek are allowed to temporarily operate in residential
areas until the city administration finds suitable transportation
to replace them.

Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said the data is needed to help
the administration adjust the ojek operation to residential areas
only.

"They are not allowed to operate on major roads because ojek
are not appropriate for transporting passengers," he said. (hhr)
