Mother throws daughter into well

LHOKSEUMAWE, Aceh: Overcome with anxiety and insecurity, a 23- year-old mother identified only as AWT, murdered her six-year-old daughter by throwing her into a well behind their house.

North Aceh Police Chief Lt. Col. Surya Dharma told journalists that the young mother was under police custody.

"I talked to her and asked her how she feels, but she said that she has no remorse," Surya was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday.

Police suspect AWT may have lost her sanity as she was overcome with anxiety following her recent divorce. AWT will be taken to a psychiatrist soon.

The body of the girl was discovered late Thursday evening when Nursal, the suspects' ex-husband, came round looking for his daughter. (mds)
