Most schools in bad shape
SEMARANG, Central Java: More than 13,000 of the province's 22,000 primary school buildings are dilapidated, the head of the Ministry of Education and Culture's provincial office, Slamet Haryanto, said yesterday.
Slamet said that 9,196 of the school buildings were slightly damaged, 3,807 were in poor condition and 1,600 were in total ruin.
He said his office had requested Rp 2 billion (US$8.3 million) from the provincial administration to finance the renovation of 136 buildings. The central government has already set aside Rp 1.4 million for this project. (har/swe)
