Mosquito coil said to cause fire

JAKARTA: A house belonging to Kolal Abrani, 50, in Cipinang Indah housing complex, East Jakarta, was gutted by fire on Tuesday at about 8 p.m.

Duren Sawit Police said on Wednesday that firefighters needed two hours to put out the fire. The fire was allegedly caused by a mosquito coil.

The police said that a security guard at the house, M. Yasid, saw smoke from a room on the second floor. He checked the room and saw the fire had already taken hold on a bed, so he ran for help.

A total of 12 fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the fire.

"The strong wind made it more difficult to put out the fire. Moreover, there were many inflammable items in the house," the police said.

During the fire, Kolal was not home. No fatalities were reported, while the material losses incurred were still being estimated. -- Antara
