Mosque caretaker found dead

BOGOR (JP): The caretaker of al-Hadi Mosque in Cilendek Barat subdistrict was found dead on Sunday night with severe head injuries.

West Bogor substation chief First Insp. Nono Darsono refused on Monday to comment on the cause of death of Suryadi Wardana, 50, who had been entrusted to look after the mosque by its owner, former national police chief Gen. (ret.) Rusmanhadi.

Suryadi's wife, Chandra, said her husband was found dead, just before midnight, after attending a gathering at the mosque. She said, however, that police only informed her of her husband's death on Monday morning.

Chandra speculated that her husband was killed by rival landowners.

Rusmanhadi's security guard, Jamal, said he found Suryadi's body in the mosque's yard while conducting a regular night watch. (21)
