More suspects seized for police murder

BOGOR (JP): Police here arrested on Tuesday night four other men who allegedly burned and stabbed two National Police officers to death, the Bogor Police Detective Chief said on Wednesday.

Adj. Comr. Santun Marpaung said that the suspects, aged between 16 and 26, were arrested at their respective houses in Cibinong village, Gunung Sindur subdistrict.

The arrest increased to eight the total number of suspects who have been arrested for the killing of Second Brig. Agus Budiono, 23 and Second Brig. Joko Wiyono, 24, on Monday.

On Monday and Tuesday police arrested four other people aged between 16 and 44, who were all residents of Cibinong. According to Marpaung, three of the first four suspects were local figures.

The fourth, who was arrested by police, was a student.

"He is still a senior high school student; he cried and hugged his mother when he was arrested," he said.

Bogor Police are now still looking for other suspects, including Bawi, 40, a gambling operator who ran away after the incident occurred.

The two murdered police officers were part of an undercover operation to arrest gambling operators in Prumpung village, Gunung Sindur subdistrict. The plan, however, was leaked and the officers reportedly panicked and accidentally shot a woman dead. They were then attacked by angry residents, who later burned one and stabbed the other. (21/hdn)
