More ships moved to Priok
The Tanjung Priok port is ready to accommodate 55 vessels of over 400-dead weight tons (DWT) from nearby Sunda Kelapa port, an official said yesterday.
Soenardjo, Tanjung Priok port administrator, said, "We have prepared all facilities, including warehouses and berths to support the vessels' activities."
The removal of these vessels from Sunda Kelapa to Tanjung Priok port is in line with Director General of Sea Transportation's telex No. 187/Phb dated April 7, 1994 regarding the government's plan to return the Sunda Kelapa port to small ships only.
Soenardjo said that slow process of moving the vessels to Tanjung Priok is caused mainly by technical reasons, including the absence of guide radios and equipment needed while berthing. (hhr)
