More revenues in vehicle taxes

TANGERANG (JP): The Tangerang administration has succeeded in raising revenue of Rp 69.9 billion (US$7.4 million) from vehicle tax and fees during the last fiscal year, exceeding their target of Rp 45.7 billion (US$4.8 million) by 155 percent.

According to the head of the Vehicle Taxation Unit, Suparman, the lion's share of the revenue was generated by vehicle ownership transfer fees, amounting to Rp 50 billion, with vehicle taxes bringing in Rp 19 billion.

His office, he said, collaborated with insurance firm PT Jasa Raharja, as well as with importers, company owners, the Jakarta Police and local vehicle dealers.

The collaboration had been going very well, he said. Soon, his office would be working on an ownership transfer order for 500 Harley Davidson motorcycles.

"We've negotiated with the importer to do the transfers here in Serpong and they've agreed," Suparman explained.

The transfers, he added, were worth around Rp 9 billion as the fees for some motorcycles could be up to Rp 18 million.

His office, Suparman said, was a national role model for fast service to taxpayers, with processing being completed within a half an hour.

"Here, we can serve up to 700 vehicle owners everyday or around 150,000 vehicles with 60 percent of them being motorcycles and the rest four-wheeled vehicles," he said. (41/hdn)
