More rainfalls in several areas

JAKARTA (JP): The city's northern and central parts will have more sporadic rainfall compared to other areas during the ongoing transitional period before the start of the dry season, an official said on Thursday.

Waan Tarmin, a staff member at the public information department of the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG), said other areas would mostly have drizzling rains only.

"The tendency for sporadic rainfall in the northern and central parts of the city occurs because the sun is now moving to the northern hemisphere after being exactly at the equator on March 21," he said.

He said cloud condensation always followed the movement of the sun, which evaporated the water.

"That's why when the sun moves to the northern hemisphere, rain falls on the city's northern and central areas more than other areas," he said.

Waan said such conditions would continue until early May.

BMG previously announced that Jakarta residents would experience drastic climate changes during the transitional period, which would last the whole month of April.

During this time, the city will be dominated by hot weather and brief rains.

The dry season itself was predicted to begin at the end of April and to last until September, but with occasional rains. (ind)
