More quakes jolt Bengkulu
BENGKULU, Bengkulu: Another series of aftershocks measuring between 4.7 and 5.1 on the Richter scale shook the province on Saturday, but no fatalities were reported.
Head of the Meteorological and Geophysical office in Kepahiang regency, Armien Paimin, said the agency detected three temblors with different epicenters.
"The epicenters were centered at the bottom of the Indian Ocean 76 kilometers southwest of here," Armien told Antara.
The initial shock, with a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale, took place on Saturday at 1:55 a.m. A stronger aftershock measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale occurred at 11:53 a.m, followed by the third temblor measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale just seven minutes later.
Bengkulu was hit by a powerful earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale on July 4, leaving at least 94 people dead and hundreds of others injured. (bby)
