More protest over paper crisis

SURAKARTA, Central Java: Several hundred students staged a noisy demonstration at the Sebelas Maret University last week, demanding that the government solve the current paper crisis.

The banner-waving students said that the severe paper shortage has disrupted the nation's education efforts.

"End the monopoly in the paper industry," a banner read. "The soaring paper prices straggle the people", another said.

The three-hour protest was also reinforced by activists of the Center for Indonesian Workers' Struggle. They distributed leaflets in which they criticized the government's lack of action in overcoming the crisis. (har)
