More police for tourists

DENPASAR: The local police increased the size of its Tourist Police force and improved their facilities in a bid to curb crimes committed by foreigners on the island, an officer said on Saturday.

Bali Police spokesman Lt. Col. Y. Suyatmo said here his office had named 14 foreigners as criminal suspects during the first three months of the year.

The suspects were mostly implicated in fraud cases, while the remaining foreigners were involved in drug cases, he said.

"The force members were recruited following tight and accurate selection procedures," Suyatmo said. (zen/01)
