More people die of diarrhea

WAINGAPU, East Nusa Tenggara: The death toll of the diarrhea epidemic in the Sumba Barat regency capital of Waikabubak reached 14 in the past month.

Secretary of the regency's administration, Anton Patymangun, was quoted by Pos Kupang as saying Wednesday that diarrhea had claimed six more lives since the disease killed eight people early last month.

He said the number of people who were receiving medical treatment had risen to 704 from 500 in the same period.

Governor Herman Musakabe visited the town Tuesday and urged local people to work together to stamp out the disease and keep their environment clean. (yac)
