More on the decimal sign

I disagree with David Tucker's opinion outlined in "Your Letters" in The Jakarta Post on Dec. 15. Supporting a different decimal system in Indonesia just because it is a custom is not practical and has no cultural merit.

"Modern progress" (for want of better words) in this ever more integrated, borderless and technical world in which Indonesia deserves its rightful place, most assuredly involves overall standardization of using the decimal sign.

A monetary decimal system that is out of tune with the rest of the world has no meaningful place in this country's beautiful art, culture or customs.
