More on 'RCTI'

I refer to David Jardine's letter (The Jakarta Post, June 6, RCTI World Cup coverage).

No David Jardine, to answer your question, you are not alone in finding that the RCTI's World Cup coverage is a disaster!

You mentioned already a couple of arguments that make watching the World Cup coverage by RCTI horrible. But as a professional in making TV programs I would like to add some other arguments on this subject.

But as the RCTI is too slow or too late for starting their broadcasting, they are very quick in finishing it. A quick end of the broadcasting means that watchers have to miss the things happening on the field straight after the match, such as the winning team celebrating their victory, changing t-shirts between players, etc. This is part of the match as well RCTI!

David already mentioned the quiz during the match that takes 1/3 of the size of your TV screen, which makes it not able to watch what's going on in the bottom of the field. This is the most annoying one of all the things popping up on the screen, but in the corners of it is a lot of small adverts which are very unpleasant as well due to their flashing characters.

By the way, the above-mentioned quiz is not the only quiz during RCTI's World Cup broadcasting; it's full of quiz things. Half hour before the match begins there is a quiz from the studio and from a couple of cafes somewhere in Jakarta. Same thing happens again during the break and then of course there's some quiz after the match. Because of all those quizzes there's no time for the RCTI commentators to say anything useful about the match itself. They only have time to quickly look back at the goals and the almost goals, before the program rushes on to the commercials and the quizzes.

By taking a good look at the arguments of David Jardine and the follow up that I give here, there's only one possible conclusion to make out of this; RCTI''s World Cup coverage is an easy way to make big money in a short time by creating quizzes and producing time for a lot of commercials.
