More funds needed for interns: KPKI

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Medical Education Committee (KPKI) demanded the government on Tuesday to allocate more funds for doctors while they are doing their internships.

The KPKI said that currently the government allocated just Rp 6 million (US$666.67) per intern each year for training, while the training program actually costs around Rp 38 million per person per year.

Each year, Indonesia has around 3,000 fresh medical graduates who must do an internship.

In Malaysia, according to KPKI, internship costs average the equivalent of Rp 29 million per person per year, but its government allocates Rp 111 million for each intern. -- JP
