More clean water for Jakartans
JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta branch of the state-owned Water Enterprise will expand its current capacity from 4,000 to 7,500 liter per second by the end of the year.
Branch chief Sulistijo said yesterday that an additional provider system is being established in Cilincing and is expected to be operational in December.
The existing capacity of 4,000 liter per second serves 115,000 families, or approximately 60 percent of North Jakarta's households.
One of the largest consumers is Tanjung Priok harbor, which uses 3,500 tons of water each month, Sulistyo said as quoted by the Antara news agency.
The branch is also committed to providing 9,000 tons of water for the Arung Samudra 95 international sailing race. Sulistijo has guaranteed that the race will not disrupt water distribution to regular customers. (pan)
