More aid for Poso refugees

POSO, Central Sulawesi: The provincial social affairs office
distributed on Saturday 716 tons of rice for some 72,000 refugees
in the Poso area.

Head of the office Azikin Suyuti said they had distributed 96
tons in Donggala regency, 300 tons in Poso, 300 tons in Palu and
20 tons in Morowali.

Poso has been the scene of repeated ethnic flare-ups over the
past year.

In the past fortnight the outlying areas of Tojo, Lage, Poso
Peisir and North Lore districts have again been tense with
sporadic violence.

However, Poso Police chief Adj. Snr. Comm. Djasman Baso Opu
pointed out that the situation in the major towns remains calm
and under control despite the flare-ups. (28)
