Moon gets frank in new Zappa novel

LOS ANGELES, California: Moon Zappa's first novel is about her relationship with her famous father, the composer and rock music legend Frank Zappa.

Well, sort of.

Moon Zappa, who signed copies of America is Beautiful on Friday in West Hollywood, told Time.com the book is "17.2 percent autobiographical."

The novel traces the life of America Throne, the daughter of a famous painter who falls in love with the wrong man while pursuing a bohemian lifestyle in Los Angeles.

Zappa, 34, grew up in Los Angeles, the oldest of the four children of Frank Zappa, who died of cancer in 1993. She shot to fame in the early 1980s when she recorded the hit song Valley Girl with her father. -- AP
