Monument declared a heritage site

BANDUNG: West Java Governor Danny Setiawan declared the Bandung Monument an official heritage site here on Tuesday.

In a ceremony, the government put his signature on the monument outside the province's Bina Marga road maintenance office. The change in status means the commemorative structure, which has long been included in lists of international heritage sites, would now be officially protected.

Bina Marga office head Imanudin Lutfan said the spot where the monument stood had been used by Dutch Governor Gen. Herman W. Deandels to calculate the cost of postal delivery when he built the Anyer-Panarukan highway. --JP
