Model sentenced to one year's jail

JAKARTA: Transvestite model Joko Wiriatno Suwito, better known
as Avi, was sentenced to a year in prison by the South Jakarta
District Court on Monday for marijuana possession.

Presiding judge Syamsul Ali said Avi was guilty of the
possession of 3.9 grams of marijuana. Avi was also fined Rp 2
million (US$235) or ordered to spend two additional months in
prison if unable to pay the fine.

Prosecutors had been seeking an 18-month prison term and a Rp
3 million fine.

Avi was arrested at home in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on
Sept. 19, 2003.-- JP
