Model aircraft over Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): About 100 radio-controlled model aircraft will color the sky over the Halim Perdana Kusuma Air Force base here on Sunday during a competition which will include, among other maneuvers, the three-inside loop, the stall turn, the Cuban eight.

Jakarta Aeromodelling Club Chairman Yohanes Nayoan said that, this time around, the annual competition will be held in conjunction with the country's 50-year independence anniversary celebrations. He added that the competition will be the biggest- ever for the club, since about 100 of its 150 members are expected to take part.

Model aircraft participating in the event will include both fixed-winged and rotary-winged machines, with wing spans ranging from 1.2 meters to four meters. The club, which is member of the Indonesian Aerosports Federation, is applying for membership of the United States' Academic Model Aircraft Association. (arf)
