Mobs damage poultry farm, bus

JAKARTA (JP): Angry residents at two different locations damaged a poultry farm and a bus in the latest incidents in Greater Jakarta of people taking the law into their own hands.

About 200 residents of Ciledug subdistrict, Tangerang, destroyed a poultry farm on Jl. Lima Rajaya in Ciledug on Friday afternoon after repeated warnings to the farm's owners to stop disposing the chickens' waste in the area.

Losses from the destruction of the farm, which measured 5 meters by 24 meters, were estimated at Rp 7 million (US$1,000).

Separately, hundreds of residents chased a Steady Safe bus on Jl. Kunir in West Jakarta on Friday night after the vehicle failed to slow down sufficiently to allow a woman to board.

Residents were incensed after 23-year-old Tuti fell, suffering minor injuries to her left hand and cheek.

Locals chased the bus and forced the driver to stop. They told the driver and passengers to alight, and proceeded to smash the bus' windows. (ylt)
