Mob damages 50 houses in Kudus

SEMARANG: A group of 40 people threw stones and vandalized 50 houses in Gondoharum village, Jekulo district, in Kudus Monday night.

Kudus Police chief Lt. Col. Imam Wahyudi said on Tuesday there were no injuries in the incident.

"The attackers were from neighboring Kaliwuluh village and were angry because a group of people mocked their village and called it underdeveloped," Imam said.

"They searched for the group who insulted them but failed to find any of them, so went on a rampage instead."

Community figures from both villages and local authorities gathered to mediate on Tuesday afternoon.

"But we have also prepare additional security to guard against the possibility of retaliation," he added. (har/edt)
