Mob burns plant for polluting area

JAKARTA (JP): A carbon factory in the Sukanegara area of
Cikupa, Tangerang, was set ablaze early Sunday morning by about
50 residents angered by its pollution of the surrounding area,
city police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis said.

"Local residents have repeatedly told the owners of the
factory, PT Bintang Cikupa, not to dump their waste near the
residential areas," Zainuri said.

"But the owners did not listen.

"As a result, they burned the plant at 1:30 a.m. on Sunday."

Tangerang Police chief Lt. Col. Pudji Hartanto could not be
reached for comment. (ylt)
