Mob burns adulterer to death

BOGOR: A man was burned to death at dawn on Friday near a rice field in Ciwaru village by a mob of local residents for allegedly having an illicit affair with a married woman.

Residents of Tenjo subdistrict have long suspected the 30-year-old Yanto of having an affair with Yeni, the wife of a man named Apandi.

According to the chief of the Parung Panjang police, First Adj. Brig. Yusuf Hutapea, Yanto was followed by the angry mob after he had visited Yeni at her house.

They later confronted him when he was on his way home and Yanto attempted to flee.

The mob however, caught him and beat him before setting him alight and leaving him to die, Yusuf said.

Police could not confirm whether any of the group involved in the slaying incident are currently being questioned.--JP
