Misused credit card

From Kompas

On May 20 I discovered from my billing account that someone had used my Citibank Mastercard. The purchases on my card must have happened on the evening of April 27 when my purse was missing for about four hours. I got my purse back through a friend of mine.

I had no suspicions that something was wrong at the time, because nothing seemed to be missing from the purse -- the jewelry and my credit cards seemed intact. I lost some cash and my ATM card, which was immediately canceled. I thought then that everything was taken care of -- until I got my bills. After the incident I contacted other card centers and discovered that two other credit cards of mine were also used for purchases amounting to between Rp 2 million and Rp 3 million (between US$869 and $1,304).

I realized that I was not in a strong position to argue about these losses because I failed to report the theft immediately.

I reported my loss to all three card centers, including Bank Duta (Visa No.4557) and Bank Bali (Matahari Card No.7800) and followed it up with a written report.

The Citibank official who received my report assured me that they would investigate the theft. This was not done by the other card centers at Bank Duta and Bank Bali.

They did not believe that I did not make the purchases.

The following day, the Risk Management staff of Citibank contacted me for more inquiries which were necessary in their investigation. Within one week they identified the culprit. Bank Bali followed suit and in the second week of their investigation the criminal was identified. Only after the investigations could the case be settled.
