Misuari's wife seeks RI support

JAKARTA: The wife of Moro Muslim leader Nur Misuari, Ruwaidah, is seeking Indonesia's help in securing the release of her husband, who was arrested by the Philippine authorities for rebellion.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with leaders of the Muhammadyah Islamic group here on Saturday, Ruwaidah said the arrest of her husband was unjust and was aimed at crushing the struggle of Muslims in the Philippines.

"The government of President (Gloria Macapagal) Arroyo has made an unjust arrest because my husband was only fighting for the freedom of the Moro Muslim people," Ruwaidah said.

Misuari chairs the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF).

The Indonesian government at one time offered to mediate in the dispute between the Philippine government and the MNLF. -- Antara
