Missing seamen found alive

SAMPIT, Central Kalimantan: A fisherman found on Friday seven seamen who had been missing for five days following an accident on their way from Jakarta to Sampit.

The seamen were floating on plastic jerrycans in waters six miles off Sungai Bakau, Seruyan regency, when they were discovered by local fisherman Anang Mulyadi.

All of them were very weak when Anang took them to his village. The fisherman reported the discovery to the local police.

The seaman were identified as skipper Abu Saka, 49, and KM Lestari Makmur motorboat crew members Mustar, 40, Usman, 41, Udin, 30, Eman, 30, Sutisna, 20, and Bondan, 25. Their boat had capsized in a storm.

Chief of Kotawaringin Timur Police operational and control center Adj. Comr. Satake Bayu said local port management and a sea transportation company PT Amat Amit would take care of the fishermen, including taking them back home to their hometowns in Java. -- Antara
