Missing `ojek' driver murdered

A team from the Criminology Laboratory of the University of Indonesia unearthed the body of an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver in a gruesome end to an investigation into the man's whereabouts.

The Pamulang police in South Jakarta have arrested two people believed to have killed the driver, identified as Nasa, 35, on Aug. 21, in order to rob him of his motorcycle.

The grave containing Nasa's body in Pondok Cabe Udik village was exhumed at the behest of the South Jakarta police.

The two suspects, who have confessed to the killing, are now in the custody of the South Jakarta police together with the man who bought the stolen bike.

They were arrested late last week as part of an intensive investigation into complaints by Nasa's neighbors that he had gone missing. The suspected murderers were from the same neighborhood.

A cable, a knife and an iron bar, believed to have been used to kill the driver, have been confiscated as material evidence. (bsr)
