Missing journalist's wife meets police

JAKARTA: The wife of journalist Elyuddin Telaumbauna, who went missing last month in North Sumatra after running stories on irregularities in local election campaigns, went to the National Police Headquarters on Monday with a key witness in the case, her lawyers said.

"The name of the witness remains confidential for his safety," Toro Mendrofa, the lawyer for Elise Sederhana Harahap, said.

Toro said the witness was with Elyuddin when they were attacked by a mob while covering a story in Teluk Dalam, South Nias, in North Sumatra on Aug. 24. The witness managed to escape the assault and reported it to the local police, who did not respond until 12 hours later.

Nearly two months after the incident, an investigation into the case has shown no significant progress.

The Press Council and the Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) have urged the police to quickly resolve the case. -- detik.com
