Mira shells out Rp 5b on new film

JAKARTA: Film producer Mira Lesmana, through Miles Films, shelled out Rp 5 billion (US$500,000) for the production of her new film, Garasi (Garage), scheduled for release in January next year.

The movie is about three young people, Gaia, Aga, Awan, who start a band in Bandung, West Java. It is also about young people who are seeking their true identity.

On the official website, www.garasithemovie.com, Mira says the movie is aimed at those who play music as well as those whose lives are influenced by music.

For this movie, Mira has joined forces with Citra-winning scriptwriter Prima Rusdi and videoclip director Agung Sentausa, who has not directed a feature film before.

The movie, which was shot in Bandung over one month, has in its cast contemporary youth idols Desta from Club 80 band and Arie Dagienkz. Both are very popular, with their broadcasts on Prambors Radio.

The leading players in Garasi are all newcomers who passed the four-month audition and casting process.

Veteran music designer Andi Ayunir is the music director for the movie.

Miles Films established their reputation after the success of Petualangan Sherina and Ada Apa dengan Cinta. Although some critics were reportedly disappointed with Miles' latest production, Banyu Biru, they have pinned their hopes on Garasi. -JP
