Ministry clarification

In reference to the news report published in The Jakarta Post
on April 10, 1996, entitled Court to hear Grogol overpass
collapse case soon, the Ministry of Public Works would like to
make the following correction:

In compliance with the explanations given by the minister of
public works at a one-day seminar on April 9, 1996, concerning
the cooperation between Indonesia and Great Britain in the
construction field, the minister never said, as reported in the
Post, that: "The supervisors, he said, are also guilty of lax
control. The difficulty with a consortium, said Radinal, is that
each party may think the other has handled a problem. The degree
of guilt of both parties is yet to be determined, Radinal said."

What the minister said on the occasion was that the contractor
was to blame for not following the procedures, and the
consultant/supervisors should also be held responsible for the
collapse of the Grogol overpass.
