Ministry accused of controlling KPI

JAKARTA: Legislators Effendi Choirie and Djoko Susilo accused on Thursday the communications minister of trying to control the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI).

Under the broadcasting law, the KPI has the authority to draft broadcasting regulations with the minister.

Choirie said the minister had overruled the KPI's plan to invite him and Djoko, who are deputy chairmen of the House of Representatives Commission I for security and information affairs, to a meeting to discuss broadcasting regulations now being drafted by the KPI.

Choirie accused the minister of having a hidden agenda in the deliberation of the regulations. -- JP
