Ministers, artists to drive in Gebyar Gudang Garam race
JAKARTA (JP): State Minister/State Secretary Moerdiono will be among the ministers and artists competing in the Gebyar Gudang Garam auto race at Sentul, near Bogor, from Dec. 6 to Dec. 7.
The other dignitaries include Minister of Tourism, Post, and Telecommunications Joop Ave, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs Hayono Isman and the director general of tourism, Andi Mappi Sammeng.
Among the artists competing are Desy Ratnasari, Renny Jayusman and Gito Rollies.
Organizer Didi Hardianto said Monday that the participants in the two-day race will have to drive Timor cars in what is being called the Timor One Make Race.
The races will be split into three categories. The first will be for leading national racers such as Dolly Indra Nasution, Richard Hendarmo and Chandra Alim. The second division will have veteran racers like Tinton Soeprapto, Cepot Haniwiano and Arthur Pelupessi.
The third class is for the celebrities whose cars will have several modifications, including the installation of special shock absorbers, roll bars and driving seats to meet minimum auto race safety requirements.
Didi, who is the circuit's financial director, said that all the participants would be given a chance to practice. "The ministers and artists will be given the opportunity to circle around the circuit for 30 minutes."
Apart from the Timor One Make Race, there will also be the fourth leg of the national racing championships, consisting of superbikes, super cars and two divisions of moped races (110cc and 150cc).
Spectators can see the races free of charge. They will be entertained by female comedian Dorce Gamalama and the Chiteco Band. (lnt)
