Minister hopes talent at Games

PALEMBANG, South Sumatra (JP): National education minister Yahya Muhaimin expected all provinces to scout talent at the Sixth Student Games at Bumi Sriwijaya Stadium that was officially opened on Saturday.

"I call all provinces to net potential students from the event and groom them to become successful athletes in the future. I hope host South Sumatra will use the event as an example to successfully stage the 2004 National Games," he said.

The opening ceremony -- which was also attended by National Sports Council chairman Wismoyo Arismunandar and Governor Rosihan Arsyad -- featured various attractions by some 560 students.

Some 2,500 students and officials will compete at the event that closes on July 14. (33)
