Minimum wage

I would like to give some comments on regional minimum wage
and overtime pay. The Manpower Ministry's decision Kep.
72/Men/1984 concerning overtime pay should be obeyed by
employers.

Jakarta Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has also urged companies in
Jakarta to obey the government's new minimum wage regulation (The
Jakarta Post, April 20, 1996, page three, Firms told to obey new
minimum wage law).

The governor's demand that companies implement the minimum
wage law should be obeyed. The government increased the minimum
daily wage for employees in Jakarta from Rp.4,600 to Rp.5,200 as
of April 1, 1996. Companies that fail to comply with this
regulation can be taken to court.
