Millennium 2000 Opera Gala Night shows again

JAKARTA (JP): The "Millennium 2000 Opera Gala Night", premiered last April, will show again at the Dharmawangsa hotel this Saturday.

Concert organizer Dorothy Poon-Louvet said the show would take place in the Dharmawangsa's grand ballroom, featuring the same leading Jakarta soloists, chorus singers and pianists.

Marijke ten Kate (soprano), Katrine Roberts (mezzo-soprano), Christopher Abimanyu and Johnson Hutagalung (tenors), Joseph Kristanto (baritone), Ary Sutedja and Adelaide Simanjuntak (pianists), and Batavia Madrigal Singers under Avip Priatna will perform 13 popular excerpts from operas and musicals.

The audience will be treated with highlights from European romantic operas -- including Nessun Dorma from Puccini's Turandot and Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Verdi's Nabucco -- as well as more accessible American selections, including Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and Berstein's Candide and West Side Story.
