Military top brass reveal their wealth

JAKARTA (JP): In its latest report published on Wednesday, the Public Servants' Wealth Audit Commission (KPKPN) disclosed the riches of two military top brass, a caretaker Cabinet member and a politician from former president Abdurrahman Wahid's party.

According to the report, Army's Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad) Commander Lt. Gen. Ryamizard has one house worth Rp 626 million, four cars and one Harley Davidson motorbike.

Ryamizard, the son-in-law of former armed forces chief and vice president Gen. (ret.) Try Sutrisno, bought a VW Caravelle this year and a Toyota Land Cruiser last year. He also owns 10 jackets which he bought in 1995.

The value of his total assets is about Rp 3.5 billion. He does not have any debt.

Meanwhile, Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Indroko Sastrowiryono owns five plots of land and properties which are valued at Rp 1.3 billion. The most expensive building, which he inherited last year is worth Rp 700 million.

Last year he also bought two cars, an Escudo and Honda City which are worth Rp 120 million and Rp 90 million respectively.

Indroko's total wealth is worth Rp 2.7 billion, including antiques, art works and precious metal.

Caretaker minister of religious affairs Tholchah Hasan meanwhile reported his wealth as totaling Rp 3.5 billion and a bank deposit of US$ 6,210.

He posses four properties in Malang, East Java, and another one in Bogor, West Java.

He bought a KIA Carnival worth Rp 209 million last year. The minister also owns four farms worth Rp 668 million.

Former maritime and fisheries minister Sarwono Kusumaatmadja reported that he owns six properties, including one building in Surabaya, valued at Rp 3.6 billion.

Sarwono who lost his position shortly before Abdurrahman's fall last month, also owns three promissory notes worth Rp 35 million which he bought from 1991 to 1993. He also reported a bank deposit in foreign currency totaling US$67,600.

Meanwhile, member of the House of Representatives (DPR) from the National Awakening Party (PKB), Taufikurrachman Saleh in his report disclosed his riches as worth nearly Rp 1.7 billion and $ 4,300.

People's Consultative Assembly deputy speaker Soetjipto from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle declared his wealth as worth Rp 4.4 billion. (prb)
