Military told to get ready for APEC
Jakarta Military Commander Maj. Gen. A.M. Hendropriyono has instructed the Jaya Sakti Infantry Brigade I to be on the alert against parties that might try to create disorder during the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference in order to tarnish image of the country abroad.
Hendro, as the general likes to be called, said over the weekend that the brigade should take proper measures in order to ensure that the conference, which will be held in Jakarta and Bogor in November, runs smoothly.
The brigade, which oversees four battalions under the Jakarta military command, was responsible for security arrangements during the 10th Non-Aligned Movement meeting in Jakarta two years ago. It is now entrusted with the security arrangements for the APEC conference.
Hendro made the remarks over the weekend at a ceremony marking the handing over of the command of the brigade from Col. Bambang Widoyanto to Lt. Col. Romulo R. Simbolon. (03)
