Military to help develop futsal

JAKARTA (JP): Siliwangi Military Commander Maj. Gen. Zainuri Hasyim vowed to help develop futsal in the country, particularly in his own territory in West Java and Banten.

He made the vow after playing in a futsal exhibition against former national players at Padjadjaran sports hall in Bandung over the weekend.

"I'm sure that futsal can increase our soccer players' skills, especially the youngsters. I will offer the use of a hall in the Siliwangi Military Command for the development of futsal in West Java," said Zainuri when closing a coaching clinic sponsored by the futsal team from the Soccer Association of Indonesia, McDonald's Indonesia and the Persib coaching corps.

The clinic was attended by a record 118 participants, comprising coaches, referees and McDonald's crew. Similar clinics were held in Jakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar and Purwokerto.

The community manager for McDonald's Indonesia, Cepi S. Husada, said other cities including Tangerang, Serang, Padang, Balikpapan and Banjarmasin had also offered to host a clinic. (ivy)
