Military seizes thieves' equipment

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: The military has seized 104 units of heavy equipment from Malaysian loggers operating illegally near the Indonesian-Malaysian border in East Kalimantan province since September last year, Antara said.

"The military also detained the timber thieves at the border areas until they were brought to court," chief of the Aji Suryanata Kesuma military resort here, Col. Rudi Landung, said yesterday.

As forests in the border areas are susceptible to plundering, he said patrols in the border areas should be intensified.
