Military school to be reopened
The City Military has announced plans to reopen the military school for delinquent students due to the significant increase of high school student brawls and delinquency incidents recorded in the past few weeks.
"We'll open the school again with or without financial support," City Military Commander Maj. Gen. A.M. Hendropriyono assured reporters on Thursday.
The schools, established at district military offices in and around the city, have been closed for months for several reasons, including financial problems.
The latest brawls involved students from the privately-owned STM Penerbangan (aviation vocational school) and their next door neighbors from SMA Purnama, a privately-owned high school, on Wednesday afternoon.
Two crime reporters who covered the clash at the scene were threatened and forced to hand over their cameras and jackets.
A total of 23 students were detained for questioning by the South Jakarta police. (bsr)
