Military men arrested over firecrackers

JAKARTA (JP): Three military personnel were arrested for
playing with firecrackers on Monday, a police report said.

The report said the military men, namely Second Sgt. M.
Syaifuddin, Second Pvt. Wastin, and Second Pvt. Sunaryo, had been
playing with firecrackers at the bus stop on Jl. Urip Sumohardjo
in East Jakarta, precisely in front of the East Jakarta Police
headquarters.

"At one point, the military personnel threw some of the
firecrackers onto the headquarters' lawn," the report said.

The report failed to mention the military men's motives behind
their actions.

The military personnel, who are stationed at the army's
directorate of equipment, were later arrested by personnel from
the police's internal affairs department.

One of the three personnel was found in possession of a dagger
at the time of his arrest, the report said. (jaw)
