Migrant workers victims of fraud

SALATIGA, Central Java: A man in the Central Java town of Salatiga has been accused of swindling eight people with false promises of construction work in Malaysia.

Three residents from Kesongo village in Semarang regency said that they had each paid between Rp 2 million and 3.5 million to a 40-year old man named Sarwan with the understanding that he would get work for them in Malaysia.

Following his arrest, Sarwan allegedly told police that he had transferred some of the money to a labor recruitment agency, and kept the remainder for himself.

Sarwan remains in police custody pending further investigation. -- Antara.
